The Metis Six Story
The Greek word metis means a quality that combines wisdom and cunning.
By the era of Greek philosophy in the 5th century BC, Metis had become the mother of wisdom and deep thought. Hellenistic philosophy (the Stoic Commentators) allegorized Metis as the embodiment of wisdom, prudence, and wise counsel.
Several thousand years later, Metis Six arose from the belief that a process, project, and business can be enhanced and optimized using prudence and wisdom applied by the appropriate counsel. Metis Six uses years of education and experience, along with an ingrained sense of reason, to recognize possibilities and effectively develop and communicate enhancements and solutions.
Brent Hudson spent years in management positions for a variety of strategic functions: manufacturing operations, engineering, new product development, procurement, strategic sourcing, supply chain operations, logistics, and environmental health and safety. Eventually, Brent moved to business management with responsibilities in profit and loss, sales and marketing, human resources, information systems, payable/receivables, and new business development. Building on his Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees, Brent earned an MBA in Operations and Black Belts in both Six Sigma and Lean Six Sigma.
Merriam-Webster defines prudence as “the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason…”. Education and experience will take you a long ways. But to excel, to truly grasp the potential of the situation, reason must be applied. Reason is the ability to view a process, a project, or a system and apply the appropriate education and experience necessary to gain the most advantage from the situation and available resources – optimization.
Combine experience, knowledge, and reason and communicate it in a calm manner and you have the basics for counsel that will take time to analyze not only the challenge, but also the parameters (cause and effects?) surrounding that challenge. Then take the challenges and parameters and develop and communicate successful options for accomplishing the task. Brent draws on years of working with personnel in office environments, manufacturing environments, union environments, executive offices, board rooms, and peers at every level to realize the optimal approach for coaching, teaching, and leading – all while keeping primary goals in view.
